「僕」と失業中の静雄は、函館の小さなアパートで一緒に暮らしている。書店で働く同僚の佐和子は「僕」と関係を持ったことがきっかけで、頻繁にアパートを訪れるようになる。やがて3人での気ままな日々が始まる。しかし、微妙なバランスの上に成り立つ関係は、常に終わりの気配がしていた。ひと夏の刹那的なきらめきを写し取る。

Our narrator, known only by the first-person pronoun “Boku,” lives with the unemployed Shizuo in a small apartment in Hakodate. After a short time, “Boku” starts a relationship with his coworker Sawako. Because of their relationship, Sawako frequently comes and visits the apartment. Though the three enjoy a seemingly carefree relationship, the subtle balance they must maintain means their relationship is always a hair’s breadth away from teetering over the edge.
